Save sources
Paste a link into chat, and Gleanary keeps a copy of the page in your library.
What happens when you save a link
Section titled “What happens when you save a link”- Gleanary keeps the original page and pulls out its text. For web pages, it also saves a preview image.
- The researcher writes a summary of the source.
- The librarian files it in the category that fits best.
- Gleanary may suggest related links from the page. See Follow links.
Gleanary saves the source on your Mac even if the summary fails. You can summarize it later.
Change what a save does
Section titled “Change what a save does”Open Settings › Capture.
- Summarize saved links writes a summary for each new link. If you turn it off, Gleanary still saves the full text, and you can choose Generate Summary on any item.
- Save page previews keeps an image of each web page.
Changes apply to the next link you save.
Sources and notes
Section titled “Sources and notes”Gleanary keeps two kinds of item:
- Sources are things you saved from elsewhere, such as web pages and PDFs.
- Notes are things written in Gleanary, by you or by an agent. Summaries, comparisons and documents from the writer are all notes.
When a save fails
Section titled “When a save fails”If a save fails, Gleanary shows Couldn’t save with the item’s name, and two buttons: Show in Activity and Try Again.
Sometimes only the link can be saved, for example when a page has no readable text. Gleanary tells you there’s no source text to summarize.
If a site blocks Gleanary, it can try again in a private browser. It only does this for links you asked it to save.
The Failed-capture retry automation tries again on its own when the problem looked temporary: after an hour, then a day, then a week. See Automations.
People, organizations and tools
Section titled “People, organizations and tools”Gleanary can pick out the people, organizations, tools and concepts your items mention. It keeps them in Entities, separate from your notes.
- To find them as you save, turn on Read notes for entities in the background in Settings › Capture. This uses Apple Intelligence and is off at first.
- If it’s off, ask in chat instead.
In Entities, you can merge duplicates with Find Duplicates, rename an entity, add other names under Also known as, and see where it appears under Mentioned in.
