Browse your library

Your library has three views. Search works in all of them, with or without AI.

Use the buttons in the toolbar to switch views.

View Shows
Map Your categories as nested regions, with each item as a tile.
List Your items as rows.
Graph Your notes and sources as points, with lines between related items.

On the Map, each item appears once, in its main category. Items with no category are grouped under Uncategorized.

To hide categories with nothing in them, turn on Hide empty categories. Empty categories are drawn with dashed outlines when they’re shown.

The tabs at the top choose which items to show:

  • All
  • Notes: everything written in Gleanary
  • Sources: everything you saved from elsewhere
  • Archived: only archived items

In the sidebar, choose a category to see what’s filed there, or Unfiled to see items without a category.

Search looks through the text of every item in your library, and matches the start of words. It runs on your Mac and doesn’t need an AI provider.

Archived items don’t appear in search.

Lines in the graph show how two items are related.

Line Means
Linked notes You applied a link between the two items.
Found via Gleanary saved one item while following a link from the other.
Source provenance A note uses a source you saved.
Saved link One item links to the other in its text.
Note property A note’s Project, Participant or Related field points to the other.

To include people, organizations and tools as points, change the Graph setting in Settings › Appearance.

The side panel lists Items in this graph. Use Find in this graph to search it, and select an item to see its connections.

An item’s preview has a Connections section. It shows up to 30 connected items. Choose Explore in Graph to see them all.
