Follow links

Gleanary can read the links in what you save and bring back the ones worth keeping.

Open Settings › Capture and move the Follow links in saved sources slider. The default is Balanced.

Level What Gleanary does
Off Ignores links in saved sources.
Lazy Notes the links, but fetches nothing.
Suggest Suggests the most promising links. Saves nothing on its own.
Balanced Saves links the author recommends, and suggests the rest.
Eager Also saves links and citations close to what’s already in your library, up to two links away.
Explore Like Eager, and keeps following links in the background, up to three links away.

Levels that save on their own have daily limits, so your library doesn’t fill up:

Level Per source Per day Per site, per day
Balanced 3 20 3
Eager 10 60 5
Explore 10 150 10

Links that are further from your own saves count for less. Social profiles, sign-up pages and sponsor links are always skipped.

Sources saved automatically don’t get a summary. If you never open one, it’s archived after 30 days. Opening it, filing it or linking it to something else keeps it.

Suggestions appear in chat as Suggested reading. Each one says where it came from, such as Recommended by the creator or Cited in the source. Choose Save to keep one, or dismiss it.

Under Levels for categories, choose Add Category to give a category its own level. Its subcategories use the same level.

Sites you’ve muted are listed under Sites you muted. Choose Unmute to follow links to a site again.

At Explore, the Source explorer automation follows links on a schedule, within a daily budget. It does nothing at other levels. See Automations.
